The Mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, officially announced the names of Hristo Angelichin and Ivan Sotirov as Deputy Mayors for Education and Security respectively.

The appointments through which the right-wing Blue Coalition enters the management of Bulgaria's capital have been on the negotiation table for months now.

Angelichin is from the Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) while Soritov is from Democrats from Strong Bulgaria (DSB). UDF and DSB together form the Blue Coalition.

Until now the City Hall had a Deputy Mayor for Legal Matters and Security, but the portfolio has been divided to ease the work load and over the upcoming establishment of the municipal police. Sofia is to become the first municipality in Bulgaria to have such police, which is expected to begin work in 2011.

In addition to security, Sotirov will serve as a liaison with the institutions and will be in charge of crisis response.

The changes will not lead to a budget increase, Fandakova promises.

Despite the Blue Coalition's disappointment for not being invited to join the cabinet of the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB)party, they still supported Fandakova's nomination as the GERB candidate for Mayor of Sofia in the fall of 2009. At the time both GERB and the “Blues” denied that there is an agreement for the right wing to be included in the City Hall's leadership.
