The Doctors’ College in Bulgaria’s capital Sofia is skeptical about the qualities and credentials of the new Health Minister, Dr. Anna-Maria Borisova.

The Chair of the College, Dr. Metodi Madzharov, says Borisova lacks the necessary experience to be successful as head of the Health Ministry and in carrying out the much disputed health reform.

Other physicians, who have gathered in front of the building of the Medical Military Academy in Sofia to protest delayed payments from the National Health Insurance Fund and the capping of their salaries, voiced doubts the Parliament is going to approve Borisova as Health Minister.

Borisova was nominated Wednesday by the cabinet of the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party and personally by Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, who declared he did not think twice about the appointment of a woman with such strong character.

On her part, Borisova vowed to immediately begin the health care reform because nothing has been done so far and to stop money leaks in the system.
