Bulgaria’s Supreme Judicial Council (VSS) is prepared to investigate all magistrates involved in violations established through Interior Ministry’s probes.

The statement was made Wednesday by the Chair of the VSS Ethics Commission, Tsoni Tsonev, who says the Commission is requesting all files about corrupt judges from the Interior.

“I am certain many magistrates are being followed and monitored by the police, but in most cases, the Interior is unable to find proof of corruption and of people taking bribes. Then the files go to the archives, despite the fact the VSS Ethics Commission has its own ways to verify violations’ reports,” Tsonev declared.

Tsonev spoke on the heels of the Commission’s decision to sanction the Sofia Deputy Prosecutor, Roman Vasilev, over his behavior during the arrest of ex Defense Minister, Nikolay Tsonev and violations of the Constitution.

The Supreme Prosecutor’s Office of Cassations announced on several occasions that they have signals about corruption practices involving over 60 magistrates. The number has been confirmed by Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov.
