The Shumen Prosecutor’s Office has started pre-trial proceedings against an unknown perpetrator for preaching religious hatred.

Deputy District Prosecutor, Dimitar Dimov, announced the move Saturday following the failed attempt by the infamous Yuzeirovi brothers to set up the OTOMAN party in Shumen on Friday.

Dimov announced that a full investigation is under way but he did not reveal how many witnesses had been called in for questioning.

The Yuzeirovi brothers’ latest attempt to set up a Muslim political party failed after they failed to gather the needed 500 supporters.

Many in Bulgaria saw the decision of the wannabe politicians to found their party on April 2, which is Good Friday for Orthodox Christians, as a provocation. The brothers responded to the accusations by saying that they chose that day because of the traditional Friday's Muslim prayer and that every Friday is sacred for Muslims.
