Yordan Kostov, the policeman, who was detained for alleged ties with the kidnap gang codenamed “The Impudent” has been fired, the Bulgarian Interior Ministry informs Tuesday.

Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov had signed the order to release Kostov from his duties after the conclusion of the pre-trial proceedings.

Yordan Kostov, is investigated for abuse of power. He is an employee of the Criminal Police and has been an inspector for operational services of detention centers. He was arrested on February 2, 2010 over accusations that he has secured lighter detention conditions for the members of “The Impudent” kidnappers gang. The suspected cooperation referred to the period before the gang was busted in December 2009 (as the gangsters have impressive criminal records).

Kostov's offices in Kasichene, near Sofia, were sealed at the time of the arrest. The now former police employee is held behind bars.

The gang is believed to be responsible for 19 cases of kidnappings of wealthy Bulgarians.
