Bulgaria’s ex Health Ministry committed violation by making contracts with private firms worth BGN 9 M for which it did not have the necessary funding, Doctoronline.bg reported.

This was announced Monday by Health Minister, Bozhidar Nanev, during the opening of a new maternity ward in the St. Anna Hospital in Sofia.

According to Nanev, the contacts in question were for the construction of two buildings of the Regional Health Directorates in the cities of Ruse and Targovishte.

“The feasibility of these two buildings is very questionable. The construction has not even been started by the ex government has made advance payments,” the current Minister explained as cited by Doctoronline.bg

The contracts in question of the former Health Minister are said to be part of the contracts made by the former government for BGN 2,16 B which the Borisov Cabinet claims were illegal as its predecessors were aware there was no money available for them in the state budget. On Monday, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov referred all the contracts in question to the Prosecutor’s Office.

During his visit to the St. Anna Hospital, Health Minister Nanev also made clear his idea aimed at collecting more of the due health insurance payments: he insists that the state administration should not issue any official documents – such as driver’s licenses – to people who have not paid their health insurance fees.
