Earthquake Shakes South-eastern Turkey

An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale has struck the south-east region of Turkey, according to the US Geological Survey.

The quake occurred at 4:11 local time on Wednesday afternoon. The epicentre was some 25 kms to the south-west of the city of Bingol, and the depth of the quake was at 18,7 kms.

There have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The earthquake has occurred only weeks after one that killed dozens of people near the city of Elazig.
