Milen Manolov, head of the Regional Police Directorate in Bulgaria’s Veliko Tarnovo, has been removed from office over suspicions that he may have mafia ties.

Manolov has been removed temporarily by Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov as the internal security units of police are investigating a scheme for legalizing stolen cars in the Traffic Control Police in Veliko Tarnovo.

Tsvetanov has announced that senior police officers in the city have been spotted driving luxury vehicles. The Minister has declined to reveal further details as the investigation is in progress.
