Environment | March 19, 2010, Friday // 09:38|  views

Saturday evening Bulgaria will enter the March solstice hailing the coming of the astronomic springtime.

At 7:32 p.m. the sun will mark the spring solstice when day and night will last equally.

The summer daylight saving time will be introduced on March 28. At 3 am Bulgarian time on March 28, all clocks will be turned one hour forward until 4 am Bulgarian time on October 31, 2010.

So, all who are in Bulgaria on March 28, should not forget to put the hands of their clocks one hour forward.

Under chronology rules adopted by the Bulgarian government, the country switches to Daylight Saving Time for the period between March 27 to the end of October every year.

The winter and summer daylight savings time were introduced in Bulgaria in 1979 while they were introduced for the first time ever in 1908 in Great Britain to optimize the daylight hours.

Since 1981 European Community (EC) Directives have prescribed the start and end dates of summer time in member states. These are set as the last Sundays in March and October respectively.
