Bulgaria Jobless Rate Hits 10,26% in Feb

Bulgaria's unemployment rate has exceeded the threshold of 10%, which employers and economists consider to be a sign of an upcoming deterioration in the purchasing power and the labor market.

The jobless rate stood at 10,26% in February with the total number of people who are unemployed towering to 380 244, up by 13,000 over the previous month, data of the Employment Agency shows.

Nearly 40% of the people, who were laid off in February, worked in the industry or trade sectors. Every tenth of the newly registered unemployed comes from the construction sector.

Sofia city is the location with the lowest unemployment rate – mere 3,47%. The cities where finding a job is very difficult are Smolyan, Targovishte, Montana and Shumen, where the unemployment rate goes up as high as 16%.
