Police in Bulgaria's Capital Register 33% Crime Solving Rate

The Head of the Sofia Police Directorate, Valeri Yordanov, informed Thursday that 11 000 crimes or 33% of all crimes were solved in 2009.
Sofia registered 32 029 crimes during the past year which is 7% higher than 2008. The most frequent crime is larceny. Burglaries are up 6.7%, but auto theft is down 6%.
From business crimes over 33% involve document fraud.
The Sofia Police has provided security for 6 500 public events in 2009.
Traffic accidents are down in 2009 for the first time in many years – 28% less than 2008.
Sofia saw 5 233 fires in 2009.
