Bulgaria’s Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, has asked the leadership of the European People’s Party to lobby in Brussels for the allocation of EU funds.

This was announced by Borisov himself Tuesday night during a news conference together with the Chair of the EPP Wilfried Martens and the Secretary-General of the EPP Antonio Lopez.

Borisov has commented that his GERB party has received solidarity and support from the EPP. He said Bulgaria needed EUR 1,5 B for the rehabilitation of its roads.

The Secretary-General of the European People’s Party, Antonio Lopez, has urged Bulgarians to rally behind the Borisov government which is fighting actively against organized crime. In his words, all Europeans are watching this fight because Bulgaria is not the only one plagued by this problem.

He is convinced that Bulgaria is a key stability factor on the Balkans and that it should have a leadership role in the region.

Lopez has promised that the EPP would lobby in Bulgaria’s favor as far as the allocation of EU funding is concerned.
