Bulgaria Soccer Star Berbatov Proud of Home Fans

Bulgaria soccer star Dimitar Berbatov has written in his new blog how much he appreciates the support of his fans, and how proud he is when they enjoy his success.

The Bulgarian national tem captain caused controversy only a week ago, when he published his first blog entry, entitled "Haters".

Now, he has explained that the entries are part of a trilogy, with the second piece entitled "Friends and Supporters".

"Due to the great interest and controversy caused by my first post, I am back with the second part of my trilogy," he explains.

"First, a few words about the first part. I was sure that there would be quite severe reactions, I just wanted to see from which country they would come. I was not surprised - the usual suspects emerged," he wrote.

"I know I am a role model for youngsters and maybe I was a little sharper, harder, more insolent in my writings, but I believe that one has to defend oneself when one deems it necessary. A purely human reaction - especially when I see that it is not about pure constructive criticism, but rather an opportunity for general malicious attacks."

Turning to his new message to his friends and supporters, Berbatov said: "And now I write to all those who associate themselves with today's headline:). For all the positive thinking ones, for all those that saw my bitterness in the first text. I feel real pride when you enjoy all of my successes, when you applauded when I was down on the ground, when you support me, since I represent Bulgaria in the world with my profession and do it for all of you who are constantly with me. And I know that there are many of you, very many. I hope I make you proud of Bulgarians."

"I can call you FRIENDS. FRIENDS I can call all those I have not met before, but I know that you support me and sympathize, defend and applaud me. Thank you for your e-mails and good words."

"I try to express my gratitude both on the pitch and off it with initiatives and projects that my foundation is involved with. I'm happy when I see someone succeed in different spheres of life," he wrote, in a reference to the charitable foundation he set up two years ago to encourage young, talented Bulgarians.

He continues by thanking unnamed close friends for all their support, and ends with a quotation by Edward Everett Hale, "who has always helped me and inspired me in difficult times".

"I am only One, but I am One. I can not do everything, but I can do something. And when I do it, I'll surpass it and when I surpass it, by the will of the Lord will accomplish even more."
