Russia Police Bust 2 Bulgarians over ATM Skimming

Russian police have busted an international crime group involved in bank card fraud, 2 Bulgarians were amongst those arrested.

The Russian newspaper ‘Komersant’ reported Monday that Bulgarian citizens Georgi Georgiev and Vladimir Staynov were arrested and some of their other colleagues were still being traced.

Police in St. Petersburg stated that the group used specialist equipment to copy the data from Russian citizens’ bank cards. They added that they had been investigating the case since receiving information at the end of 2009.

During the raid of the Bulgarians’ hotel room, skimming devices, camcorders, data records and other equipment was confiscated.

Over 50 bank accounts were said to have been affected, with 30-50 million roubles having been stolen.
