Former Interior Minister Rumen Petkov has slammed Finance Minister Simeon Djankov over his argument with Bulgaria President Georgi Parvanov.

Bulgarian Socialist Party MP Petkov, speaking on PRO.BG, said that "It isn’t to do with the clash between the president and this misunderstanding Djankov. It is a war between the institutions," regarding the transcript scandal that has led to the governing GERB party calling for the impeachment of Parvanov.

Petkov added that the real purpose of the scandal is to take the public’s attention away from the fundamental problems of the country such as Djankov’s proposal to force civil servants to pay their own health insurance contributions instead of the state.

Petkov concluded by asking Djankov to “apologize to the 7-8 million Bulgarian citizens. Djankov is not only a liar, he smears people with a feeling of untouchability.” He finished by backing Socialist President Parvanov; “The president will not abandon his intentions. He is a tolerant and strong-willed person.”
