The French Ambassador to Sofia, Etienne de Poncins, stated Thursday he is seeing encouraging signs the reform of the Bulgarian judicial system is going in the right direction.

De Poncins spoke in the city of Veliko Tarnovo where he was an official guest of the celebrations of the 100th Anniversary of “Alliance Francaise.”

The Ambassador pointed as evidence for his belief the measures undertaken by the new Bulgarian cabinet, the parliamentary debates about the new Penal Code, and most of all – the guilty verdicts in the high-profile “Borilski” case where the Bulgarian court admitted the evidence provided by the French police – the “best in the world,” according to de Poncins.

The French diplomat further pointed out the date for the beginning of the parallel French trial will be scheduled soon, adding what is most important for the French is the fact the case was brought to the best possible conclusion in Bulgaria.

De Poncins is known as a strong critic of the Bulgarian courts and judiciary, pointing out on numerous occasions they do not function satisfactorily and properly.
