Bulgaria's ruling party Executive Committee has issued a statement condemning the publication in the print media of the conversation between President Parvanov and Deputy PM Simeon Djankov.

"On March 5, the President published for the media a print copy of the conversation with Deputy Prime Minister Simeon Djankov about the interpretation of minister’s statement in a TV show made a couple of days ago," the statement issued by the GERB Executive Committee reads.

The document accuses the president of turning a conversation that was supposed to clear the air between him and Djankov, into a political act.

The statement also criticizes the comments made by the President on the performance of the Deputy PM and the government.

"Outside the reason for this conversation, the President dared to attack the Deputy Prime Minister over the overall policy of the government in some unacceptable way. Being the architect and defender of the former three-way coalition and its policy, he is the direct culprit for the problems with which the citizens and the current government have to struggle."

Noting that the current government has frequently expressed its respect for the Presidential institution, the statement concludes that Parvanov’s "will for cooperation with the government is only fictitious", and that there is a further purpose to these actions.

"Seeking a way for personal performance and unprecedented attack against the major decisions and measures of the government, showed that the political strategy of President Parvanov goes beyond the horizon of his second term in office as president. It is obvious that he is preparing his own political project in the time when he is chosen to represent the unity of the nation."

Meantime, the Chair of the Bulgarian National Assembly, Tsetska Tsacheva has also waded into the controversy. She announced on Saturday that she has sent a letter to President Parvanov, demanding the original text of the conversation between him and Djankov.

Tsacheva also stated that she had asked the President whether the Deputy PM had given his permission for the text to be published on the official website of the president and in the electronic media.

"The original copy is required in order to clear out the circumstances, which will ascertain the facts around the above-mentioned conversation and institutions’ obligations under the law and the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria," the parliamentary Speaker stated.
