Hristina Mitreva became Friday the new Head of the Bulgarian Social Security Institute (NOI) after 148 MPs voted yes on her nomination.

Until now Mitreva was Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Policy, a position she has held since August 2009, with particular responsibility for social security and incomes policy.

Her nomination was put forward by the Bulgarian Minister of Labor and Social Policy, Totyu Mladenov from the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party.

Mitreva is replacing Sotir Ushev, who resigned from the post citing personal reasons for his departure.

Hristina Mitreva was born on August 15, 1949. She is a graduate of Sofia’s Economy University with a major in Statistics. She has worked between 1971 and 1990 in the Center for Statistics and later had been an expert at the Voluntary Retirement Contribution Fund and the Insurance Company “Bulgaria Life.” Since 1998 until becoming Deputy Minister in August 2009, Mitreva was the Head of the Main Directorate “Analysis, Planning and Prognostics” at NOI.
