Sofia Prosecutor Reopens Case of Ethnic Turkish Politician Death

The Sofia District Prosecutor's Office has sent all files about the probe of the death of Ahmed Emin to the City Prosecutor.

The news was reported Thursday by the Bulgarian information agency BTA.

The City Prosecutor is also to receive the report of the National Agency for State Security, DANS, which, according to unofficial sources, lists violations during the investigation of the death.

Ahmed Emin, was one of the major figures of Bulgaria’s ethnic Turkish party Movement for Rights and Freedoms, DPS, and Chief of Staff of the DPS leader, Ahmed Dogan. Emin's body was found on the afternoon of 17 October 2008 in the Sofia quarter of Boyana, in the notorious estate, allegedly belonging to Dogan. In mid-April 2009, the Prosecutor's Office in Sofia officially closed the investigation into his death, concluding that he committed suicide.

A week ago, the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office announced they will revise their conclusions. The information came on the heels of statements made by Prime Minister, Boyko Boriosv, who spoke about reopening the file. DPS recently and for the first time said Emin killed himself over his participation in a plot to murder Dogan.
