Meglena Kuneva, Bulgaria's first European commissioner, will not be the next head of  the Commission's in-house think-tank, the Bureau of European Policy Advisers (BEPA), because she has been denied the appointment, a report says.

“The truth is that Kuneva had applied for the position of the Head of BEPA but much to his regret, Barroso had to deny the appointment,” the online edition New Europe said.

“Former Commissioner Maglena Kuneva, failed to get a re-nomination as Commissioner or find another job in Brussels, and has returned to Sofia in a noble attempt to “save Bulgaria”. However, the office of President Barroso, confirmed that although there were talks, the position had never been officially offered to Kuneva,” New Europe claims.

Sources in Berlin close to the German Chancellery and in the European Parliament in Brussels, said that the request of Kuneva was vetoed by Germany, as an expression of political and personal support to Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.
