The Bulgarian ethnic Turkish party Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) demands a recount of the vote cast in Turkey during the summer 2009 general elections.

The request has been filed with the Constitutional Court, which ruled on February 17 to void 18 000 Turkey votes because of electoral process violations.

The rule caused a reshuffle in the Parliament where DPS lost on seat while the ruling Citizens for European development of Bulgaria (GERB) party, the rightist Blue Coalition and the conservative Order, Law and Justice (RZS) party gained one seat each.

DPS say that if the recount shows that the number of votes corresponds to the protocols, the reshuffle must be declared illegal.

The DPS Deputy Chairman, Lyutvi Mestan, further announced that the Court will be asked to conduct a parallel inquiry for alleged electoral violations in the capital Sofia, and the cities of Gabrovo and Dobrich, adding a refusal would show bias.

DSP reiterated their intentions to file a suit with the ECHR disputing the decision, in case the Bulgarian Court declines examining the case.
