Vienna Eyes Sofia, Zagreb Stock Markets

Wiener Boerse, the operator of the Vienna stock exchange, is in informal talks for the acquisition of a stake in Sofia and Zagreb bourses, Austrian newspaper Wirtschaftsblatt reported.

“We are not yet holding official negotiations, but we are in talks,” Heinrich Schaller, CEO of Vienna Stock Exchange, told Wirtschaftsblatt. Vienna stock exchange is part of Wiener Boerse together with the bourses in Prague, Budapest and Ljubljana.

The sale of Sofia's 44% stake in the stock exchange made headlines after an announcement of Finance Minister Simeon Djankov from the middle of November, who said an Austrian and a German stock exchange have declared interest in it.

The other potential candidate, Deutsche Boerse, has declined to comment.
