The management of the Bulgarian Insurance Company “Lev Ins” declared the closing of some of their offices and the seizing of company documents by the police illegal.

During a special pres conference Tuesday, one of the Israeli shareholders in the company Shaul Schneider, stated that Aleksei Petrov has never been a shareholder or an employee of “Lev Ins.”

The company reminded that about 40% of the shares belong to Israeli investors. The management has been in touch with the Embassy of Israel in Sofia and the Ambassador had sent a letter to Chief Prosecutor, Boris Velchev, asking explanations about the police operation. Velchev had made the commitment to offer answers within 10 days. In case the Chief Prosecutor fails to adhere to the deadline, “Lev Ins” is to decide on legal measures.

The CEO, Stefan Sofiyanski, pointed out that not a single manager and employee of the company had ever been detained or charged with a crime and this is why they do not understand the reason behind closing offices and seizing servers and documents.

Sofiyanski further informed that no client so far had purchased the optional policy against kidnapping introduced by “Lev Ins” as a special option, adding the policy had been created by the foreign partners and was geared mostly towards sailors after the abductions in the Gulf of Aden became a frequent occurrence.

The company announced they are about to launch a policy for insuring body parts over strong interest from football players.

“Lev Ins” became tangled in the special police operation “Octopus” after the February 10 arrest of Aleksei Petrov and 13 other individuals charged with various crimes.
