Ex Bulgaria Prime minister, Dimitar Popov, has stated that USD 2 B disappeared from Bulgaria’s foreign exchange reserves in an 8 month period in 1990.

Popov, who was Bulgarian PM of the ‘national agreement’ government from 1990-1991, said that at least USD 2 B passed through “the suitcases” from March to December 1990. He added that there is a clear list of names of the people who “filled their pockets” with the money, bTV reported late Sunday.

According to Popov very little of the money was returned to the country. He said; “this process was quite painful” and also revealed that he now receives a BGN 400 state pension.

Popov concluded by saying that he has his “fingers crossed” that the new center-right GERB government is successful in reforming the country but warned that they will need a long time.
