Bulgaria’s Interior Chief Secretary, Kalin Georgiev, has stated that commandos from the specialized unit to combat terrorism will help in the fight against organized crime.

Georgiev, speaking in an interview for Bulgarian daily newspaper 24 Chasa, said that the commandos would train staff from every regional Interior Ministry department on how most effectively to carry out the arrests of more serious organized crime groups.

He continued that the current special police actions mean that someone from the list of the most wanted 300 Bulgarian mafia bosses is made to worry every day.

Georgiev concluded that many of the victims of the businessmen arrested in the recent Octopus special police operation have asked for personal meetings with either him or Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov to check if the case is being investigated properly. He added that “we have taken the necessary steps to ensure peace and security for the witnesses.”
