Bulgaria’s former Prime Minister and leader of the Socialist Party (BSP), Sergey Stanishev, supports the proposal of President Georgi Parvanov to open and expose the “economic files of the transition period.”

Stanishev spoke Sunday during the meeting of the Chairs of the Local and Municipal Councils of BSP, held in the second largest city of Plovdiv.

The ex PM pointed out the files in question are actually Communist Secret Security files that will reveal the way the transition period in Bulgaria was carried out; how huge resources ended in private hands and how this influences politics and political parties.

Stanishev says that he opposes the opinion of the leader of the rightist Democrats for Strong Bulgaria, (DSB), Ivan Kostov, who was recently quoted as saying “we must forget the past and focus on the future.”

The Plovdiv meeting concentrated on the preparation for the local 2011 elections.

At the end of the forum, Stanishev extended happy birthday wishes to former Finance Minister, Plamen Oresharski, who was a member of his cabinet.

The ex PM congratulated Oresharski for his 50th anniversary and joked that the time is coming when billboards with Oresharski’s portrait and signs “Do You Miss Me Already?” will appear all over the country due to the poor job of now Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov.
