25 Nigerian medical students have been left trapped in Bulgaria after a local Nigeria state governor has failed to pay for their trip back home.

The 25 students are part of a 50 strong group who were sent to Bulgaria by the Attahiru Bafarawa administration in 2000, allafrica.com reported Friday.

The Sokoto State government has been criticized for allowing the students to become destitute in Bulgaria after spending public funds on their medical training which finished 6 months ago.

The students are reported to have been left to the mercy of the Nigerian Embassy in Bulgaria and some “good Nigerians in that country”, while they wait to receive their flight tickets back home.
