The women’s 500m short track qualifying round began on a good note for Bulgaria as its best skater Evgeniya Radanova qualified for her quarterfinal races at the Olympic Games in Vancouver.

Radanova, a three-time Olympic champion, came out as a winner in her heat, clocking in at 45,125 seconds.

Defending Olympic champion Meng Weng set an Olympic record in her heat with a time of 43,926 seconds, proving why she is favored to win the gold.

The quarterfinals are set to take place on February 18.
