The first European Council meeting chaired by the new EU President Herman Van Rompuy has been put off by 2 hours over snowfall forecasts.

Thus, instead of 10 am as previously scheduled, the meeting in Brussels will convene at 12 pm, DPA has reported.

The postponement was decided by Van Rompuy himself after on Wednesday Belgium saw huge traffic jams because of the snow, in order to allow EU leaders enough time to arrive.

Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borisov is also joining his EU counterparts in Brussels for the summit which is going to discuss the reform of the EU's economy over the next 10 years in order to generate growth and new jobs, the conclusions from the Copenhagen climate change summit, the financial crisis in Greece, and relief after the earthquake in Haiti.
