Sofia City Court has ruled that the trial of the Milev brothers, members of the so-called "Crocodiles" highway robbery gang, should be postponed until March 18.

The court has also decreed on Wednesday that the trial proceedings should recommence entirely. The reason for this is that two members of the court have been replaced.

In addition, the postponement has been provoked by the non-appearance on Wednesday of the accused, Evgeni Milev, aka Geyzo.

His lawyer, Stoiko Barboski stated that his client had not been summoned to appear before the court according to regular procedure. He explained that, as Milev was in custody, he could not appear in court without a formal summons.

Evgeny Milev’s wanted brother, Emil, is still on the run, according to official sources.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that Evgeny Milev had made a request for a change of the terms of his detention, asking to be released from custody.

He is accused of using a forged international passport. According to investigators, Milev had acquired fake stamps from several borders, in order to prove that he was in Bulgaria on the night of December 14, 2009.

Earlier that month, police had been involved in a shootout on the Trakia highway, following the gang’s attack on a Turkish motorist. Emil Milev had fled the scene, and has eluded the authorities since that time.
