The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office submitted Wednesday to the Sofia City Court official charges against two Members of Parliament from the ethnic Turkish party.

Gyunay Sefer and Mithat Tabakov were elected on the ticket of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) in the town of Silistra.

The charges raised against Gyunay Sefer concern a major fraud, involving forged documents, while those against Tabakov have been defined as document fraud, malfeasance in office and corruption, prosecutors said.

Before they entered Parliament, Tabakov was Mayor of the northeastern town of Dulovo, while Sefer was Dulovo Municipal Councilor.

The document fraud relates to two public tenders for local road construction where the DPS MPs, through another defendant in the case, Rositsa Milcheva, have submitted fake paperwork and obtained illegally nearly BGN 400 000 from the “Public Investment Projects” program.

Mithat Tabakov is further charged with another fraud where he used fake documentation to receive BGN 357 000 from the same program, again with Milcheva's help.
