Bulgaria’s Socialist MEPs have expressed their satisfaction with the performance of Bulgaria’s EU Commissioner-Designate Kristalina Georgieva during her EP hearing on Wednesday.

This has been announced by their delegation to the European Parliament. The four Bulgarian Socialist MEPs believe that Georgieva has demonstrated obvious knowledge on the issues that she is going to work with as EU’s first Commissioner for humanitarian aid.

However, they have expressed their regret that the Borisov government initially went through the failed nomination of Bulgaria’s ex Foreign Minister Rumiana Jeleva (whose hearing on January 12, 2010, was marred by conflict of interests allegations and bad performance).

“It has become absolutely clear that the problem was in the extremely inappropriate nomination of Jeleva aggressively and arrogantly imposed by the Prime Minister, and not in the “sabotage” by the Socialists that he claimed,” the position of the leftists states.

“We hope that this will be a hard-earned lesson for the necessity of at least minimal European thinking and criteria that the Bulgarian government needs. We are confident that the new EC will be confirmed next week, and will make up for the delay caused by the Bulgarian Prime Minister,” the Socialists say.
