Bulgaria Police Officer Busted over Ties with Kidnap Gang

An employee of the Interior has been arrested Tuesday over contacts with the notorious kidnapping gang code named “The Impudent,” the Interior Ministry press center reports.

The police officer, Yordan Kostov, is investigated for abuse of power. He is an employee of the Criminal Police and has been an inspector for operational services of detention centers. His offices are sealed.

Kostov has used his job to secure alleviated conditions for the kidnappers and other inmates during their jail time.

Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, announced on several occasions that 5 police employees from the Interior mid-level management are probed for connections with the kidnapping gang. He informed Tuesday, the probe revealed four other police officers had ties with the gang and proceedings against them are forthcoming.

The arrest has been led in person by the Sofia City Deputy Chief Prosecutor, Roman Vasilev, the “Internal Security” Directorate of the Interior Ministry, and the anti-mafia police units.
