Greek Customs Strike Set to Cause More Bulgaria Border Chaos

The Greek Federation of Customs Employees is set to strike causing further disruption to the Bulgaria-Greece border, Lachezar Ivanov, the General Consul of Bulgaria to Thessaloniki has reported.

The planned 2 day strike will start on Thursday and will most likely affect all entry points to Greece, including Airports and Ports. The Bulgarian Interior Ministry reported that it still has no official information about the proposed strike.

This strike will add to the current chaos which sees a 5 km line of Bulgarian trucks blockaded at the Kulata-Promahon border cross point between Bulgaria and Greece due to protesting Greek farmers. The farmers’ protest is now into its third week with Bulgarian businesses said to be losing up to BGN 3 M per day.

On Monday the Greek border police did not allow the delegation of the Bulgarian National Business Association and Bulgarian reporters across the border after they were set to negotiate with the protesting Greek farmers.
