Bulgaria PM Boyko Borisov has strongly backed his center-right GERB government’s health reforms after meeting with Bulgaria President Georgi Parvanov on Monday.

Borisov said that “every day Health Minsiter Bozhidar Nanev discoevers new scandalous activity in state hospitals – fictitious doctors, patients etc...” He added Health reform must take place, it is the only way.”

Borisov continued thatno countries in the world can provide a 100% flawless health reform, look at President Barack Obama in the US, he has had to make adjustments to key reforms. I think however that the path we are on is correct.”

He added that health workers must be paid for what they do and called for an end of “double payments”. Borisov concluded that “health reform must continue in full, because if not done now – when?”

On Sunday Bulgaria’s former Prime Minister and leader of the Socialist Party, Sergey Stanishev, slammed the healthcare actions of the Borisov government.

“This reform dooms one third of all Bulgarians to a lack of medical aid. The reason for the reform is the shortage of BGN 500 M for hospital aid,” Stanishev said during a seminar of the Bulgarian Socialist Party in the resort town of Hisarya.
