The town councilor from the far-right, nationalist Ataka party in Bulgaria’s Samokov, Yuriy Galev, has been arrested for beating a security guard.
Galev, who is also the President of the Football Club “Rilski Sportist” has been detained along with his son, Yuriy Galev Jr. and three other people, reported as Pavlin Pomakov, Yordan Ivanov and Ivan Ivanov, over a Sunday evening incident in the winter resort of Borovets, in which they are accused of severely beating two young men.
Another person is still wanted for taking part in the incident.
The Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, had ordered a thorough investigation in the case.
The incident stems from an argument between Galev Jr., 16, and the security guards of the ski lift at the resort. The young man declared he was not going to pay the BGN 17 for using the lift since he did not want to. He told them he could afford the ticket, but never before had to pay. The security guards, who are not local people, failed to recognize Galev Jr. and did not allow him to enter without a ticket.
Galev called his father, who showed up with the alleged 4 accomplices and thrashed the guards.
The victims say the police also arrived, but after seeing who the perpetrators were did not do a thing.
Galev, his son, and the other 3 individuals are being held behind bars for 72 hours. Tsvetanov qualified the beating as an extremely bold act of hooliganism,
The leader of Ataka, Volen Siderov, stated he did not know anything about the incident, but was going to do his own probe and if proven guilty, Galev Sr. will be penalized.
