A new avalanche happened Saturday morning in Bulgaria’s most popular winter resort Bansko.

One person had suffered serious injuries and is said to have scull trauma.

The young woman had been part of a group of tourists who had been moving on a summer trail from the “Banderitsa” cabin to peak “Vihren” through the mountain site known as “Kazanite.”

Mountain rescue teams from Bankso are still trying to reach the group. The avalanche had fallen from the “Palashitsa” site – the most avalanche prone area of the Pirin Mountain.

On Friday, a ski instructor from Bansko, who was snowboarding in an area that is forbidden for skiing and snowboarding, was killed by an avalanche.

The Mountain Rescue Service warns that there is the highest level of danger of avalanches over the weekend.
