The European Commission has asked the Bulgarian government for precise figures on the country’s losses incurred during the ongoing border blockade carried out by protesting Greek farmers.

This has been announced by the Foreign Ministry which invites all Bulgarian companies that were affected by the Greek border blockade to provide in to the respective Ministries (i.e. of Economy, Transport, and Agriculture) detailed data about their losses. The deadline for submitting the information is February 3, 2010.

If possible, the documents should be submitted in English. They should state when the respective firm started to experience difficulties as a result of the intermittent blockade of the Bulgarian-Greek border by the Greek farmers who have been protesting with demands for higher agriculture prices.

The affected Bulgaria firms should also present geographic information about their business activities related to Greece, and also if they managed to circumvent the blockade.

Bulgaria has addressed the European Commission with request for EU help in terminating the border blockade. Bulgaria's government is currently considering whether to file a suit with the EU court against Greece in order to claim compensations.
