Bulgaria Energy, Economic and Tourism Minister, Traicho Traikov, has stated that Bulgaria will work towards the creation of an integrated energy market in the region during a meeting of BSEC Energy Ministers.

Traikov, speaking at the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) meeting, said that Bulgaria would work towards the creation of an integrated energy market within the organization for BSEC. He added that this would be in line with the EU views on energy market development.

Traikov stressed that the Black Sea region is key to ensuring the safety of the energy supply for Europe. He continued that Bulgaria is a constructive partner and is working on two projects for gas pipelines - South Stream and Nabucco.

He declined to predict whether a quicker realization of one of the projects would undermine the other, but said that the priority for Bulgaria is the Southern Energy Corridor that is backed by the EU and includes the Nabucco pipeline.

Traikov concluded that the ecological assessment of the Burgas-Alexandropolis natural gas pipeline had begun and that no decision would be taken on the future of the project until the results of the assessment had been presented.
