Bulgaria Interior Minister Becomes Darik Radio Politician of Year

Bulgaria’s Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, became Wednesday the latest recipient of the traditional “Politician of the Year 2009” award bestowed by Darik radio.

Tsvetanov was selected by Darik radio listeners and readers of the DarikNews site. Tsvetanov collected 80 000 of a total of 200 000 votes.

This is the first time in the history of the award when it is bestowed to an Interior Minister. Other recipients include President, Georgi Parvanov, Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, former PMs, Ivan Kostov, Sergey Stanishev and Simeon Saxe-Coburg, former President, Petar Stoyanov, former Foreign Minister, Nadezhda Mihailova.

Some of Bulgaria’s most influential media take part in the nominations. Other 2009 nominees included Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov, the Mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, former Bulgarian EU Commissioner, Meglena Kuneva, and the leader of the conservative Order, Law and Justice (RZS) party, Yane Yanev.

Tsvetanov said he dedicates the award to all employees of the Interior and to his party – Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB).
