Devastated Haiti Hit by New 5,5 Aftershock

Aftershocks of magnitude 5,5 on the Richter scale have been registered in Haiti Monday, 13 days after the devastating earthquake struck on January 12.

The Geophysical Institute of the United States have announced that the tremors were felt at 5:51 pm local time. The epicenter was 4 km deep.

The death toll from the January 12 7 point magnitude on the Richter scale quake is currently reported at 150 000 while 200 000 have been injured. Over 1,5 million are said to have been left homeless. On January 20, another aftershock, of a 6,1 magnitude was registered 56 km northwest of the Haitian capital, Port au Prince.

The UN representatives there say they are in urgent need of soldiers, vehicles and gasoline in order to help the victims of the disaster. They further announced that former US President, Bill Clinton, had vowed to sent about 100 armored vehicles to assist the rescue operations.
