Bulgaria Freezes Assets of Kidnap Gangsters

Bulgarian prosecutors have taken steps to freeze assets of the members of a high-profile kidnappers’ gang, who were arrested after two successful special operations codenamed “The Impudent”.

“All needed actions have been taken to freeze the assets of the criminals and their relatives,” Sofia City Prosecutor Nikolay Kokinov said on Sunday.

Meanwhile the Chief Secretary of the Interior Ministry commented that the criminal groups are restructuring their activities in the wake of the succceses that the ministry has recently scored in the combat against organized crime.

“It is more quiet on the criminal front following "The Impudent" operations. The criminal world does not allow vacuums and when we strike it at one place, it moves to another field,” Kalin Georgiev commented for the national radio.

The high-profile kidnappers’ gang is believed to be responsible for 19 cases of kidnappings of rich Bulgarians. It was busted in a special operation codenamed “The Impudent” in December 2009. A total of 30 people were arrested initially, 10 were left behind bars.
