Bulgaria’s new Deputy Prime Minister, INSEAD Professor Ilian Mihov, will be in charge of coordinating EU funding and of the country’s efforts to join the Eurozone.

This was announced Thursday by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov who explained that even though Mihov’s exact responsibilities had not been completely hammered out yet, he would be a Deputy Minister without a portfolio and special functions.

Borisov’s ideas is to have Mihov support the work of Deputy PM and Finance Minister Simeon Djankov, and of Minister of Economy, Energy, and Tourism, Traicho Traikov. Borisov did specify, however, that Mihov would be in charge in coordinating the absorption of EU funding and of aiding Bulgaria’s Eurozone accession.

Mihov himself has declared he would was ready to become Bulgarian Deputy PM in a brief interview for the Bulgarian National Radio.

He declared that even though he had not met Finance Minister Djankov, he was certain that the two would be able to work well together.
