INSEAD Professor Ilian Mihov will be a new Deputy Prime Minister with economic responsibilities in the Borisov government.

This has been formally confirmed Thursday by PM Borisov himself after some media reports said late Wednesday that Mihov would just be a special advisor to Borisov.

During his visit to the city of Pernik Thursday, Borisov stated that Mihov would be a Minister without a portfolio similar to the position of Meglena Plugchieva in the Stanishev government who was a Deputy PM in charge of coordinating the absorption of EU funding.

Borisov said Mihov’s joining the cabinet would ease the workload on Finance Minister Simeon Djankov.

“Currently, in order to do his job, Djankov has to work 30 hours a day,” the Prime Minister stated.

On Wednesday, he announced the first cabinet reshuffle including the arrival of Ilian Mihov who is filling in for World Bank VP Kristalina Georgieva. Georgieva was supposed to join the Bulgarian government but is now nominated as Bulgaria’s EC-Designate.
