Rome to Display Monument of Prominent Bulgarian Writer Vazov

A monument of prominent Bulgarian poet and writer, Ivan Vazov, is going to be displayed in the Italian capital Rome.

The news was announced by the Bulgarian Culture Ministry, upon approval of the Bulgarian project by a special committee at the Rome City Hall.

The official opening ceremony is scheduled for May 24 when Bulgarian celebrates the Day of Slavic Script and Culture.

The monument will be located on the Thorvaldsen square, near Villa Borghese. The sculpture will be 2,6-meters tall and will be made of bronze. The project is authored by Professor, Velichko Manev.

The decision had been made during talks between Bulgaria's Culture Minister, Vezhdi Rashidov, and the Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi during Berlusconi's visit to Bulgaria in October 2009.
