Bulgaria’s new EU Commissioner-Designate, Kristalina Georgieva, has declared she was very well aware of her proposed portfolio.

Georgieva has replaced Tuesday Rumiana Jeleva as Bulgaria’s EC Designate, and is supposed to become the new EU Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid, and Crisis Prevention.

“The most important thing for Bulgaria now is to demonstrate the best we are capable of. I am going to review the questions which have already been asked for this portfolio in order to become really well prepared in the time that I have left before my hearing,” Georgieva has said as cited by the BNR.

Kristalina Georgieva who is an acting Vice-President of the World Bank, and has been working there since 1993, has explained that even though the WB was no humanitarian institution, she has been working with the UN, the International Red Cross, and other relevant organizations.

“From this experience of mine I have a good basis on which to prepare for the hearing at the European Parliament,” she stated. Her EP hearing will take place on February 3rd, 2010.

Georgieva answered a question why she had not become part of the Borisov Cabinet by saying that she had other serious commitments while the government was formed in the summer of 2009. Georgieva was rumored to become the Deputy PM in charge of the economy.
