Bulgaria Justice Minister, Margarita Popova, has stated that the ‘Krasio from Pleven’ magistrate scandal is still not resolved.

Popova, speaking in an interview on bTV, said that Bulgarian magistrates themselves were to blame for the Krasio scandal and that the issue is still not resolved.

18 Bulgarian magistrates currently face legal proceedings after Krasimir Georgiev aka “Krasio from Pleven” allegedly, offered to secure their appointment to high ranking positions through the vote of the VSS in exchange for EUR 200 000 in cash.

Popova added that the most difficult moment of her job as Justice Minister so far was the moment when she had to get her former colleagues from the Supreme Judicial Council “to speak with one voice and to hear what it says.”

Regarding the alleged 12 fraud cases against the murdered journalist Bobi Tsankov, Popva said that it is possible that the lack of a operational information system can allow cases to relapse.

Popova concluded that she is working on changes to the Bulgarian penal code so that authorities can affectively target organized crime.
