The Budget and Finance Committee of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) has ruled that magistrates and court staff under disciplinary sanctions, or those with outstanding legal penalties, should not be eligible for bonus payments.

The Bulgarian Supreme Judicial Council has made the announcement on Friday, in connection with the decision of the Council of Ministers to allow funding of the bonuses.

The ban would also apply to all personnel against whom there are pending disciplinary proceedings.

The government had decided on Thursday that the Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov, should impose a limit on payments from the budget to the judiciary power for the disputed bonuses.

According to their decision, the minister should allow the possibility for payment with funds that have been left over from last year for accrued but unpaid expenses, resulting from decisions of the SJC, who would take overall responsibility for disbursing the bonuses among the judiciary and staff.
