The companies in charge of removing snow in Sofia are going to be payed only 20% of the amount due to them for the Tuesday cleaning.

The order was issued by the Mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, during a Wednesday meeting with the City Hall operational winter cleaning team.

Fandakova gave an extremely unsatisfactory assessment of the work flow during the latest Sofia snow storm. For districts, where the snow removal is bellow 5%, the companies will not receive any pay.

From the BGN 2 M slated for the Tuesday cleaning, only BGN 410 000 will be paid. From the BGN 3 M for December, the companies have been paid BGN 1,5 M.

Fandakova further demanded that the cleaning companies' managers create a new organization to guarantee improved services. She ordered all snow removal vehicles to leave their parking bases and be on standby at the districts they are assigned to clean as soon as there is a snow forecast. Garages of public transportation vehicles are to be used as temporary parking.
