The sanctions imposed by Bulgaria’s Commission on Protection of Competition (CPC) on two dairy associations have been confirmed by the Supreme Administrative Court (SAC) on Tuesday.

The fines for dairy price-fixing on the Association of Dairy Processors in Bulgaria and the National Association of Milk, BGN 15 000 and BGN 10 000 respectively, were finally upheld after a delay i9n the appeal since July 24, 2008 when the CPC originally made its ruling.

The decision came after the Commission investigated price hikes of white (sirene) and yellow (kashkaval) cheese in Summer 2007.

It was found that the two Associations had worked to coordinate pricing policies for the dairy market on cheese made from cow’s milk.
